As we make progress on the development of our Ontario properties, we continue to explore opportunities to reinvest in our properties in B.C. The Great Blue Heron Casino opened in 1997 on the lands of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation (MSIFN). The site houses more than 500 slot machines, 60 live table games and employs 1100 people (as of June 16, 2017).

The Great Blue Heron Casino is located on Scugog Island, just east of the community of Port Perry, Ontario, and northeast of Toronto. Both the Casino and the land on which it is built are owned by the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation. The First Nation theme is carried throughout the facility, in the interior art and is especially noticeable in the signature red, blue and cream colour roof.

Its floor area is approximately 25,000 square feet (2,300 m²), in which there are now two bars, one restaurant, a slots' room with 545 machines and a 60 table games. The table games include: Roulette, Blackjack, Spanish 21, Mini Baccarat, Let it Ride Poker, Texas Hold Em Poker, Pai Gow Poker, Three & Four Card Poker and Texas Hold Em Bonus Poker. As of 1999, there is no longer a bingo hall on premises.

The Casino is currently receiving renovations that will be completed in July of 2020.^[1] The expansion includes a 100 room hotel as well as a 20,000 square foot addition to hold more slots and tables and a 500 seat entertainment centre.^[2]

The decision by Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) to select a service provider for three casinos in the Greater Toronto Area is likely to spur significant redevelopment and expansion at the sites, although details are still unclear about the extent and scope of the development.

OLG announced on Aug. 8 that Ontario Gaming GTA LP (OGGLP), a partnership of Great Canadian Gaming Corporation and Brookfield Business Partners LP would oversee the 'gaming bundle' with sites at the Woodbine race track, as well as at the Great Blue Heron and Ajax gaming sites.

Great Canadian and Brookfield will each hold a 49 per cent interest in OGGLP. Clairvest Group Inc. will hold a two per cent interest. Great Canadian will operate the gaming facilities within the GTA bundle on behalf of the partnership, which will operate the casinos for 22 years under a Casino Operating and Services Agreement (COSA). Under the COSA, OGGLP will take over day-to-day operations of OLG Slots at Woodbine Racetrack, OLG Slots at Ajax Downs and Great Blue Heron Casino.

OLG expects that the service provider will assume operations in early 2018.

Woodbine, which now hosts slot machines, is expected to become a full-fledged casino and entertainment/hotel complex, described as a 'city within a city,' based on a design international architecture and planning firm SWA Group.

In a statement, racetrack operator Woodbine Entertainment Group said it looks forward to working with the new 'key partners' while proceeding with its vision for 684 privately owned acres, including 'expanded entertainment and cultural offerings, food and dining, hotel, shopping, employment, post-secondary education, recreation, health, wellness, and urban residential living (facilities).'

The new partnership won't make the winning plan public just yet, the Toronto Star has reported Chuck Keeling of Great Canadian Gaming as saying.

'We are eager and excited,' he said, but, 'in a proposal this large and complex, there a lot of vested stakeholders,' and it is important to brief them on plans and get feedback before making the details public.

'We do have a vision for the GTA marketplace, and, at this place, we don't want to speak to any of the details, which include preferential locations,' for casino sites, said Keeling, promising details 'soon.'

Along with Woodbine, the casino operator will likely invest resources in expanding the OLG Slots at Ajax Downs and the Great Blue Heron Casino located in the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.
